Organic analysis by LIBS

Organic analysis by LIBS

LIBS is considered as a technique capable of providing atomic information exclusively. However, the last years have demonstrated that under specific conditions, rich information about molecular structure of the sample can be obtained, as long as the excitation conditions and detection are controlled. The talk will cover the most relevant applications and experimental configuration used to date to expand the range of applications and information extracted from a laser-induced plasma including the possibility of performing simultaneous detection (LIBS-Raman, LIBS-LIMS).

Short course 2/Minicurso 2

Introduction to laser-ionization mass spectrometry.
This course would provide an overview of instrumental aspects of mass spectrometry of laser-generated ions, with a focus in showing the different range of applications.

Femtosecond laser ablation.
This course will be focused on the use of ultra short laser pulses in laser ablation in general, and on LIBS in particular. A brief description of the femtosecond technology will be provide, to cover the exciting new applications that femtosecond laser pulses open in chemical analysis, and the advantages (when exist ...) of ultra short pulses in comparison to conventional nanosecond excitation.
